Luca Mazzotti was born in Forlì, Italy, in 1963 to a father novelist and a mother artist. He graduated from the University of Bologna with a degree in Humanities and Philosophy, and three quarters of one in Modern History. He worked as a copywriter, researcher, screenwriter, dialogue writer, and journalist before moving to Philadelphia in 1993, when he married his friend and personal physician Maria. He taught Italian Culture and Language for over twenty years, in area universities including University of Pennsylvania, Temple University and Drexel University. Luca and Maria have two children: Julia plays the electric guitar and the bass, Lawrence plays professional soccer in Spain. His father Lino and his sister Anna still live in Italy.
The wine work - His passion for wine took him on a journey with no clear destination but through many different professional stops, from the academy (he has been awarded certifications and diplomas from the Wine and Spirits Trust, the Guild of Master Sommeliers and the Society of Wine Educators), to the commerce (between 2000 and 2012 he was president of West Park Imports, a fine wine importing company serving seven states). He was also a wine educator (Italian Culinary Institute of NYC and the Restaurant School of Philadelphia) and the wine editor for the New York-based publications "The Magazine of La Cucina Italiana" and "Italian Cooking and Living" from 2001 to 2003.
Today – A full-time writer constantly elaborating new material, Luca is an avid reader of many books at one time, as well as a classic cinema enthusiast. In what is left of his time, the author becomes a cook, a history buff, a science lover, a watch collector and a “slightly better than average” poker player.
