Which other agricultural object of daily consumption confuses, polarizes and intimidates users? Why do we understate and - often at the same time - overstate its relevance? Why is wine more misunderstood than understood? This book, written for wine enthusiasts at all levels of competence but with unbridled curiosity and the will to satisfy it, offers answers based on culture and common sense, through a systematic exploration of wine's complicated nature and a passionate appreciation of its finest qualities.

“Winetales” is a carefully chosen compilation of magazine columns and articles (mostly from The Magazine of La Cucina Italiana), short stories, academic lectures, and other essays that cover a kaleidoscope of wine-related topics, from conservation to winemaking, from collecting to wine appreciation. It also includes in-depth analysis of different styles of wine, historical and cultural research, introductions to several wine districts, as well as interviews, uncompromising social commentary, and other honest wine opinions.
Twenty-five invitations to broaden the cultural boundaries and possibly find inspiration for daily life. These seemingly random fragments are the product of many years of exposure and many months of research, combining introspection with investigation, recollections with analysis, and ideas with testimony.

One quite long and two very short stories created and developed during the first two years of the pandemic-afflicted world's new order. A fictional exploration of the range of emotions associated with the lockdown, along with the many possible intended and unintended consequences, the grave downfalls, and the small triumphs occurring in an isolated, diffident world where a handful of characters struggle to find their identity ("The Tunnel at The End of the Light"). An experimental collection of narrative fragments, "Stage, Displaced" is recounted by different characters in different viewpoints, and touches on isolation, ambition, creative block, confusion, the search for peace, and murder. "How to Lose at Poker" is, apparently, a parable on the dangers of gambling and the self-doubts associated with risk-taking, but, on a deeper reading, it takes the reader on a surreal voyage of acceptance of failure and personal growth.
All written in a casual, conversational tone, and populated by honest, contemporary characters, these stories offer a hopeful perspective on human struggle and achievement in a time of alienation and fear.
